MEET THE FOODIE NEWBIE

I started my online food blog in 2017 when I just migrated to the US. Growing up, I did not have the means to explore different provisions other than homemade food and nearby carinderias. Astonished by the variety available in Los Angeles, I started exploring this world and tasting victuals of history and tradition that were previously unbeknownst to me.

My relationship with food is ever-growing; I started from eating fried fish and rice for every meal to now hosting themed dinners for my friends and family. We were not the most well-to-do growing up so I’ve only known of fried meat paired with steamed rice as a desideratum of life. Moving to the US, I also did not rise with much. Inevitably, the first few things I explored were the hole-in-the-walls that will remain the bread and butter of my food journey. If I have to choose between a street taco stand and an Eater-approved 4-dollar sign restaurant, you bet I will be eating tacos all night. Even on my travels, I strive to look for places that the locals eat and do frequently.

My love for all things international had its early roots. I graduated with International Relations in 2014 and started being interested in foreign cultures at an early age. I self-studied and learned multiple languages when I was 11 years old; my mom believed I will pursue linguistics. Unsurprisingly, life had different plans for me.

One of those unexpected turns of events was getting into the tech industry. I did not mean to, but I became enamored with digital marketing and all its beautiful facets. Being in tech means being comfortable with changes, being open for discourse, and rerouting and abandoning something you've worked hard for if you have to. It's a constant learning and unlearning process. I had the opportunity to work at some esteemed companies such as PatientPop, ByteDance (TikTok), JOYY, Inc. (HAGO), and PrismPop.

I have 5 years of digital marketing experience with a specialization in social media management and content creation, which I luckily get to use in full force on my food blog. I've had to chance to learn more about cooking, innovated my kitchen, attended and hosted incredible events, connected with like-minded individuals, explored exciting parts of the world, and even be a stakeholder at a food-focused organization.

My life has been full of beautiful twists and turns. Accompanied with delicious memories, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Food for us comes from our relatives, whether they have wings or fins or roots. That is how we consider food. Food has a culture. It has a history. It has a story. It has relationships.
